EQ: Mobile Brain Tracking for Concussion Recovery

NorCal Brain Center is excited to integrate Highmark Interactive’s mobile application, EQ- Active Brain Tracking, into our practice. This innovative tool helps us establish a baseline after a concussion and monitor progress throughout recovery.

What is EQ?

EQ combines video games, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence to track brain activity and support recovery from brain injuries.

Patients download the smartphone app and use it under their physician’s supervision. EQ helps assess the severity of a head injury and provides data-driven insights for treatment and recovery.

Designed by doctors, athletes, and sports medicine professionals, EQ has undergone clinical trials and is FDA-listed. Highmark’s medical advisory board has rigorously tested and approved its effectiveness.

How Does EQ Work?

EQ includes game-based tests that measure concussion symptoms, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and other neurological issues. By tracking results over time, the app allows physicians to evaluate progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.

Patients see a clear health range for their results, making recovery more engaging and empowering. They can also use the app to check for potential brain injuries after another collision or blow to the head.

This feature is especially valuable for athletes who experience repeated impacts. By running a quick test, they receive immediate analytics to share with their physician.

How We Use EQ at NorCal Brain Center

At NorCal, we have years of experience in treating concussions, and helping athletes, children involved in playground accidents or other victims of accidents and injury. That doesn’t mean, however, that we are not always on the lookout for new tools and treatment options to help our patients.

This is why we have added EQ to our diagnostic and treatment toolkit. We know that it will help us serve our patients more effectively. When being evaluated for your brain injury, we will give you the access code to download EQ and then use the app to help us perform a baseline evaluation and then track your progress as you follow your treatment plan.

If you or a family member have received a blow to the head, we urge you to visit us at NorCal Brain Center to experience the integrative, comprehensive and effective concussion management treatments that we can offer you!

Jang

Jang was born in Incheon, South Korea, and moved to the U.S. when he was one year old. He was raised in Morgan Hill, and from a young age, he knew that helping others made him happy. At 12, he began volunteering in various capacities, including preparing food, cleaning trash, assisting with after-school activities, and more. However, it wasn’t until he took his first actual science course in high school at age 14 that he developed a passion for science.

Combining his love for helping others with his interest in science, Jang attended the University of California, Davis, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior (NPB). His time there cemented his passion for healthcare. Since graduating, he has worked at various clinics, hoping to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible to positively impact people’s lives.

Initially, Jang aspired to become a Physician Assistant. After working at Norcal Brain Center for a year and witnessing its profound impact on patients, he hopes to become a clinical neurologist one day.

He enjoys working out, spending time outdoors, and exploring new restaurants with friends and family in his free time.
